FAQ
Does PromoLock count my planned discounts as loss?
Section titled “Does PromoLock count my planned discounts as loss?”No — this is the analytics report’s core rule. On regular-priced items, the largest discount on a line is treated as the one you intended and is never counted. Loss is only the unintended part: codes landing on already-marked-down items, and extra discounts stacked beyond the one you meant. Details in Analytics.
Will PromoLock ever break my checkout?
Section titled “Will PromoLock ever break my checkout?”No. PromoLock makes its decisions inside Shopify’s own checkout, and any check that can’t be completed simply lets the code through. Only a definite match with one of your rules ever blocks a code — nothing else can get in a customer’s way.
Do I need to touch my theme?
Section titled “Do I need to touch my theme?”No. PromoLock never touches your theme or storefront, and uninstalling leaves nothing behind.
Do the Controller rules apply to codes made by other apps?
Section titled “Do the Controller rules apply to codes made by other apps?”Yes. The Controller applies to every code entered at your checkout — native discounts, PromoLock discounts, and codes generated by other apps.
What’s a code pattern?
Section titled “What’s a code pattern?”A way to target whole families of codes in one entry, using # as the wildcard: VIP# matches every code starting with VIP, #2026 every code ending in 2026, #SAVE# every code containing SAVE. Every code list in PromoLock accepts them — full reference.
If a custom rule and a quick control disagree, which wins?
Section titled “If a custom rule and a quick control disagree, which wins?”Quick controls always win — they run after all custom rules, so an Allow rule can’t override Discount Lock or the stacking lock. Among custom rules themselves, later rules in the list override earlier ones. Details in which rule wins.
Why did a customer see “This code is not valid at this time.”?
Section titled “Why did a customer see “This code is not valid at this time.”?”That’s the default message when one of your rules blocks a code. Each lock and rule can carry its own message, so you can make the reason explicit (“This code can’t be used on sale items”).
Who can use Fraud Guard?
Section titled “Who can use Fraud Guard?”Fraud Guard is available on Shopify Plus stores. Everything else — the Controller, Discounts, bulk codes, Analytics — works on any plan.
Does Fraud Guard protect codes made by other apps?
Section titled “Does Fraud Guard protect codes made by other apps?”Yes — for the same-code check, any code on your store qualifies (native Shopify, other apps’, or PromoLock’s) as long as its discount is set to one use per customer. The set-wide guard — one code per person across a whole campaign of unique codes — is exclusive to PromoLock bulk sets. The fraud-proofing strategy walks the full setup.
How is “one code per person” different from Shopify’s “one use per customer”?
Section titled “How is “one code per person” different from Shopify’s “one use per customer”?”Shopify’s limit counts per code and account, and every new email is a new account. Fraud Guard recognizes the person — matching email (through +tag aliases and capitalization tricks), phone (regardless of formatting), and optionally near-miss names and addresses — across accounts, and across every code in a bulk set. See Fraud Guard.
How far back does analytics go?
Section titled “How far back does analytics go?”Up to 365 days of order history on the initial build, refreshed daily after that. Stores with exceptional order volume keep their most recent history rather than the full year.
What happens to my data if I uninstall?
Section titled “What happens to my data if I uninstall?”All data associated with your store is deleted. Redemption records used by Fraud Guard are also on a rolling 365-day retention while installed. See the Privacy Policy and DPA.
