LeakHunt

LeakHunt is a second app from the PromoLock team, and it’s included free with an active PromoLock plan. Where PromoLock decides what a code is allowed to do at checkout, LeakHunt deals with the codes that were never meant to be public in the first place: the ones sitting on coupon sites and auto-applied by browser extensions like Honey.

It does two things:

• Leak Radar checks the public coupon sites for codes attributed to your store, verifies which ones actually exist and currently work, and shows you that short list with a one-click Disable.
• Extension Guard rejects your leaked codes at checkout when a shopper’s browser is running a coupon extension. Every other shopper, and every code you meant to be public, is untouched.

LeakHunt works on every Shopify plan. There is no Plus requirement.

Activating it with PromoLock

1. On the PromoLock dashboard, the card next to the Controller has a LeakHunt tab. While LeakHunt isn’t active it reads Exposed; click Activate free. This opens LeakHunt in your Shopify admin. If it isn’t installed yet, Shopify shows its install page first.
2. On LeakHunt’s plan page, click Activate free with PromoLock. LeakHunt confirms your PromoLock plan with PromoLock directly, and the plan card then reads Included with PromoLock, with nothing to cancel and nothing on your bill.
3. Back on the PromoLock dashboard the tab flips to Protected once LeakHunt has checked in, and its link becomes Open.

Extension Guard, verification, and the dashboard are identical on both. A Basic bundle can still move to Hunter with Upgrade to Hunter on LeakHunt’s plan page. That one is a regular LeakHunt subscription.

LeakHunt re-confirms the bundle with PromoLock about once a day, so a PromoLock upgrade or downgrade changes your LeakHunt plan within a day. If your PromoLock plan ends, the free access ends within a day too, and LeakHunt’s own free trial stays available in that case.

Note

If you already pay for LeakHunt directly, the PromoLock dashboard doesn’t know that and will still show Activate free. Nothing is wrong. You can ignore it, or switch to the bundle from LeakHunt’s plan page.

Leak Radar

Turning it on

Click Turn on Leak Radar. The first scan starts right away and finishes in minutes. After that, scans run on their own, nightly on Hunter and weekly on Basic, and the card shows Last scan and how often it runs. There’s nothing to remember: the schedule runs itself.

What lands on the list

Every scan checks the busiest coupon sites (RetailMeNot, Coupert, Wethrift, CouponBirds and the rest) for codes attributed to your store. Most of what’s published there is junk (expired, made up, or another brand’s), so LeakHunt checks every candidate against your store, and only codes that really exist and currently work are shown. That verification is what makes the list worth reading.

Status	Live means usable right now. Scheduled means it starts on a future date, i.e. leaked ahead of its campaign. Disabled / Deleted rows no longer work and are kept as history.

Filters above the table: Live (the default, meaning what a shopper could redeem right now), Disabled, Intentional, and All.

A first scan can legitimately find nothing. In that case the card says No leaked codes found and tells you what was checked, so it never reads as a failure.

What to do with a row

• Disable turns the code off in Shopify, immediately. The row moves under the Disabled filter as a record of the leak.
• Mark as intentional is for codes that are supposed to be public: an affiliate code, an influencer code, the one printed on your packaging. Marked codes stay on the list with an Intentional badge, Extension Guard never blocks them, and no scan ever undoes the decision.

A leak that later disappears from the coupon sites is left alone. The code still works, so it’s still a leak. Only turning it off (in LeakHunt or in your Shopify admin) resolves it.

Email alerts (Hunter)

On Hunter, every scan that finds something new sends one email listing the new codes and whether each is live or scheduled, to the addresses you list under Settings → Email alerts. Nothing new, no email.

Extension Guard

The problem it solves

A shopper with Honey, Coupert, RetailMeNot, Capital One Shopping, Rakuten or any of the other coupon extensions LeakHunt recognizes doesn’t type a code. The extension tries every code on its list at your checkout until one sticks, your leaked codes included. Extension Guard makes those codes fail for that shopper only.

Setting it up

Extension Guard needs one thing from you first: LeakHunt’s app embed switched on in your live theme. Shopify doesn’t let an app do this for you, so the card links you to the theme editor with the embed pre-selected. Turn it on, save, come back. LeakHunt notices, switches the guard on, and the Extension Guard switch appears on the card. That’s the only theme step, and there’s no code to paste.

Until the embed is on, the card reads Not added to your live theme yet and the switch is hidden, so the guard can’t silently do nothing.

How blocking works

• When a shopper’s browser is running a recognized coupon extension, all of your live and scheduled leaked codes are rejected at that shopper’s checkout, not just the ones “belonging” to that extension. Codes are cross-listed everywhere, and an extension is a signal about the shopper, not the code.
• Codes marked Intentional and codes on your Settings → Whitelist are never blocked and never counted as leaks. Put your public affiliate and partner codes there ahead of time.
• Shoppers without a coupon extension are never affected. Every other code, and every other shopper, checks out exactly as before.
• Orders protected · 30 days on the card counts the orders where a coupon extension was present and the guard was on, with a breakdown by extension underneath.

Leak Radar and Extension Guard are separate decisions, and both are yours. Disabling a code in Leak Radar ends it for everyone. Extension Guard is for a code you want to keep live: it stays live for every shopper without a coupon extension, and only shoppers whose browser is running one are turned away from it at checkout. Many merchants want exactly that and nothing more. Like PromoLock, the guard never gets in the way of a sale: if anything about the check can’t be completed, the code goes through.

What LeakHunt is not

It doesn’t change the rules a code follows. That’s the Controller and Discounts. And it doesn’t need PromoLock’s checkout setup: LeakHunt is its own app with its own settings, and the only thing the two share is your plan.
